Where I Stand on the Issues
SECURITY – We all need to feel secure in our homes, communities, and in the world
- National Security
The United States is a sovereign nation. We need to maintain the integrity of our borders while finding reasonable, balanced, and sustainable immigration policies to accommodate those good people from other nations who want to join us. I support LEGAL immigration. People who would like to become citizens of the United States should apply from their home country and follow the proper procedures, which need to be streamlined and improved.
The federal government can no longer ignore the drug cartels and human smugglers operating along the border. In Southern Arizona we live with this reality daily. We must secure our borders in order to protect this nation from these criminal organizations. I support completing the border fence and hiring more Border Patrol agents so we can properly secure our nation.
We need to re-establish and strengthen our connections with our allies in other countries and find strong and effective methods to deter our enemies.
- Economic Security
Jobs and economic growth are essential for this generation and beyond. We must support the return to the free-market principles that made our economy the envy of the world and provided prosperity for our families. I support lowering tax rates and reducing regulations so individuals and companies can flourish.
Ultimately we must find a way to balance the federal budget and keep it in balance. We cannot keep overspending and raising the debt limit to the point of bankruptcy. I support fiscal responsibility and I am dedicated to reducing and eliminating all corruption, waste, fraud and abuse with our taxpayer monies. Our country needs a short-term plan to get us to the point of a sustainable and balanced budget and a long-term plan to keep us there.
In Southern Arizona we have great potential to capitalize on the burgeoning growth in Northern Mexico. The Tucson area is poised to become a huge internal port for goods from Guaymas and other areas. To facilitate this I support improving and expanding Nogales and other border crossings plus the addition of a new interstate highway to connect near Casa Grande and Sahuarita (Interstate 11). Also, I would never abandon Arizona and call for a boycott of our state.
- Energy Security
America is rich in natural resources that are abundantly available to us so that we can become energy independent. Developing our abundant domestic oil, natural gas, and coal deposits has become an issue of economic security. We can no longer afford to ship billions of dollars overseas to purchase oil from countries that are not always friends to the U.S.A.
We must move quickly to secure affordable energy to improve our economy, create new jobs, and strengthen our trade imbalance. It’s time to get the Keystone Pipeline and other lucrative energy projects moving forward. Exploring and drilling for energy right here in America would immediately put Americans back to work in good paying jobs and lower our trade deficit.
Southern Arizona stands in the vanguard for energy security with the proposed Yuma Refinery. It is not enough to find and drill out the oil, it must then be refined for our use. This refinery is a state of the art facility that can responsibly increase this nations capacity to refine oil. The construction and operation of this plant will also provide many new jobs in an area currently experiencing high unemployment. I support the construction of this project.
- Healthcare Security
The American health care system is excellent but the cost of care and insurance coverage are too high. We need real reforms that increase competition and more customer choice. I support the purchase of insurance across state lines, improving the options for personal health savings accounts, personal tax deductions for the cost of health care premiums, and tort reform to address the hidden cost of defensive medicine. It is these free market solutions that will lead to truly affordable and sustainable care which allows consumers to decide what type of healthcare they want or need.
When elected, I will make it one of my priorities to push for the repeal of Obamacare (the Affordable Care Act) in the next Congressional session. We do not need Socialized medicine. Medicaid is already available to aid unfortunate people who cannot pay for their healthcare and can be tweaked to cover those in need.
VALUES – Our shared American values create and sustain the fabric of our culture
- Support Our Troops, Veterans and Diplomats
I appreciate all military troops, past and present, who risk life and limb for our security. My gratitude also extends to diplomats and all other Americans who work to promote our interests overseas. For everyone in these positions I support all efforts to assure safety and efficiency in their endeavors. I will always support our troops by making sure they have the best equipment and our complete backing while they are fighting to protect freedom. I will fully support our veterans as they transition back to civilian life. As the mother of a daughter in the U.S. Marine Corps, the brave men and women in the U.S. military hold a special place in my heart.
I believe that life begins at conception will always vote to preserve life from beginning to the natural end. The health and well-being of the unborn is priority for me.
I am a strong advocate of traditional marriage, defined as a religious and civil contract between a man and a woman.
- Limited Government
In recent years the federal government has expanded tremendously in its regulation and taxation of so many aspects of our personal and professional lives.
The government over reach has made life more complicated and bogged down in bureaucratic policies. Teachers and school districts are overwhelmed with the paperwork now required to comply with the US Department of Education requirements. Business owners are burdened with more and more fines, fees, restrictions, and regulations from the federal government. We need simple, fair and effective laws, not so many government constraints.
RIGHTS – Our United States Constitution gives us rights that are enjoyed in few places on earth
- Freedom of Speech our 1st Amendment
Our need for national security has taken our federal government to the position of over reaching its authority as it tries to limit our freedom to say what we think and to expose problems. Spying on US citizens and persecution of journalists and whistleblowers are unconstitutional and need to stop.
- The Right to Bear Arms our 2nd Amendment
I am a strong advocate for the right of all law abiding Americans to fully enjoy the right to keep and bear arms. I will support legislation that protects and advances this individual right and I will oppose any gun control efforts to restrict the firearms industry or access to ammunition.
I would fight against ratification of the United Nations ban on firearms. As a sovereign nation we decide what our laws are and will be, not this union of nations.
- States Rights
It is time to re-balance the power between the federal government and the states. As with the value of limited government, I believe that states need to reclaim their authority as given in our constitution.
